## Our Senegalese Sarr

> Ismaïla Sarr became the club’s third signing of the 2024/25 summer transfer window after joining on a five-year deal from Olympique de Marseille.

The 26-year-old attacker possesses plenty of experience of English football, having spent four years at Watford – recording 34 goals and 22 assists in 131 games – prior to joining Marseille, whom he helped reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League last season.

Sarr's career began in French football with Metz, before moving to Rennes and leading the club into Europe, as well as winning their first Coupe de France in almost half a century.

At international level, he has been a mainstay of the Senegal national side, earning 64 caps, scoring 13 goals and winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021.

His career has also been defined by his eye for the spectacular, having won Goal of the Season awards in both the Football League and the Europa League.

Born in December 1933 in Harlow, Essex, Burridge began his football career with brief, but successful, stints at both Barnet and Leyton Orient, before joining Millwall for the sum of £2,000 in 1960.
 
The forward played 91 times and scored an impressive 62 times for the Lions across two seasons, as Millwall won the Division Four championship title.
 
In doing so, Burridge caught the eye of Arthur Rowe, who signed him for Palace for £8,000 in the summer of 1962.
 
His career continued to flourish with the Glaziers, finishing as the club’s leading goalscorer in his debut season – 1962/63 – with 14 goals, including a hat-trick in a 5-0 Easter Monday rout of Wrexham.
 
The following season, Burridge again topped Palace’s goalscoring charts (alongside Cliff Holton), with 20 strikes to his name under manager Dick Graham. His goals and all-round displays helped the Eagles finish second and win promotion to Division Two for the first time in the post-war era.
 
As his affinity with the Palace supporters – and reputation for venomous strikes which crashed into the back of the net– grew, Burridge began to develop a midfield role in the side.
 
He concluded his spell at Palace in 1965 with 49 goals in 124 appearances to his name, before spells at Charlton Athletic and Bedford Town saw out his career.
 
The club extends its deepest sympathy to Peter’s family and friends at this sad time.

Palace recorded one of the greatest days in the club’s history last weekend, with a stunning display and 3-0 win over Aston Villa at Wembley to book their spot in the FA Cup Final against Manchester City.

Two Premier League matches sit between now and 17th May, however, the first of which sees Palace hosting Champions League-chasing Nottingham Forest on Monday (5th May, 20:00 BST) at Selhurst Park.

Providing a team news update in his pre-match press conference, Glasner said: “It’s good times at the moment. Everyone had a few days off and could enjoy the win, but yesterday we met and we watched a few clips from the semi-final and analysed it.

“Then it was the message: we spoke for maybe 30 seconds about the Final and City, and then I told them that, from yesterday, we don’t talk about City and the Final anymore until the Monday after the Tottenham game \[on 11th May\].

“We had two very good sessions. I was very surprised – usually after four days off, it takes a bit of time, but the players looked very sharp, very focused and had great intensity, great quality in the training sessions, and today was the same.

“All players are still fit, no problems. All players take part in the training sessions, and this is how we want to end the season.

“We have three-and-a-half weeks now to go. We want to end the season at the best level that’s possible – and the players give me confidence that this is possible."

Expanding on his team selection plans for the visit of Forest, Glasner added: "It's easy for me because I always do the same: pick the best available team.

"I think that to have the biggest chance to win it, and this I will do on Monday again.

"We could see that players are fit, players are ready, and I think that, with our schedule, we don't have to save energy and power for any game, especially now.

"It's always better staying in the rhythm than having maybe 10 days, 2 weeks, with no game – you lose your rhythm.

"The players are used to playing in this rhythm, so \[it will be the\] best possible team."
