100 Years of Selhurst Park

## From Academy to Premier League

> Having joined the Palace Academy from Brentford in 2016, Tyrick Mitchell rose to prominence rapidly at Palace and set the record for the youngest-ever player to make 100 Premier League appearances for the club.

Mitchell was a regular in both of Palace's Under-18 and Under-23 Professional Development League South winning teams in 2017/18 as he spent a second campaign featuring at both levels.

A recruit from Brentford at the end of the 2015/16 season, Mitchell, an attacking left-back with bundles of pace, impressed sufficiently for the Academy side to be handed a chance with the Development team in 2016. He used that experience to his advantage in 17/18 as he helped his two teams to silverware.

In 2018/19, Mitchell was a regular fixture in Richard Shaw's U23s team and joined the first-team on their pre-season tour in the summer of 2019.

After returning from an injury sustained while on tour, Mitchell made several first-team squads and earned his Premier League debut against Leicester City in July 2020. He went on to secure his first Premier League start by playing the full 90 minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In April 2021, he signed a contract extension through til the end of 2024/25. Mitchell then followed this up with his first goal and assist for the Eagles, as helped the side to a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa in May 2021.

His performances throughout 21/22 saw him earn a senior England call-up for the first time in March 2022, making his debut in a 2-1 win over Switzerland.

Mitchell was nearly ever-present in 2022/23, featuring for Palace in 38 out of a possible 41 games in all competitions. He made his 100th appearance in red and blue against Tottenham Hotspur towards the end of the campaign and was also awarded the PFA Community Champion Award for his support for the Palace for Life Foundation.

He was again so close to being ever-present in 2023/24, this time only missing a single game through injury. Nevertheless, he continued to make the left-back position his own, and even stepping further forward as a left wing-back under new manager Oliver Glasner. 

The 2023/24 campaign also saw the best attacking returns for Mitchell, with two goals and three assists.

The manager's Championship-winning side scored an impressive 55 goals in 22 games last season, and will now look to bring that impressive level of performance to the elite competition, the WSL.

#### On the team’s identity..

Last year we scored a phenomenal amount of goals and set quite a few records in terms of the attacking football and style that we had.

I never want to lose that flair. I never want to lose that element, that style. But we know that the opposition is stronger.

I think we know that we've got to be compact in parts of the game, but always with the mindset of us winning the ball back.

I've looked at statistics to do with passive defending in the WSL last year and we know that we don't want that to be us. We want to get up to the ball. We want to be aggressive, out of possession.

The players were really committed to that style of play, and we don't want to lose that for our fans and for the club, in terms of our identity.

Now we've got to blend that into a slightly different style of play, along with a new mix of players. 

We still want to play exciting football, but we need to be ready for the level that's in front of us.

#### On Palace’s busy summer..

We've brought several new players into the fold, it has been great to get to know them, to work with them on the grass and for them to be integrated in our team and in this club.

But it takes time and we've been working really hard to settle them and to get them to enjoy their football here.

I've said before that they've added great value already, but I expect that to keep on growing.

We’ve got a great mix and a great side, working with them so far in preseason has been fantastic.

What they've brought to the grass has been a pleasure to watch and a pleasure to coach.

#### On Palace’s exciting young core..

Lexi Potter had some chances last year and was absolutely outstanding for the group.

We're very fortunate to see her again this season because she adds so much to us.

These young players are hungry, they want to go after it and they want to get better and improve every day.

I feel that from Lexi, Brooke Aspin and Poppy Pritchard. Working with them on the grass, they just want to get better and better and learn.

Palace have a special relationship with their American fanbase, having last visited the country in 2023 – a trip which included a stint in Chicago – and 2024 on pre-season tour.

US Men’s National Team player Chris Richards recently scored his first goal for the club, after signing in the summer of 2022. Gregg Berhalter, meanwhile, became the first Crystal Palace player to feature at a World Cup finals when he represented the USA in South Korea and Japan in 2002.

Plus, hit American TV show *Ted Lasso* was filmed at Selhurst Park, the home of the fictional side AFC Richmond.

Crystal Palace will take centre stage at the next Premier League Mornings Live fan festival in Chicago this weekend, with the Eagles' match against Manchester United set for the prime viewing slot on Saturday!

Having won a [historic Women’s Championship title](https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/features/champions-complete-story-crystal-palace-women-2023-2024-season/) earlier this year, Laura Kaminski’s Eagles are set to embark on Palace's first campaign in the top-flight, beginning [away at Tottenham Hotspur on the opening weekend](https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/tickets/ticket-details-tottenham-hotspur-crystal-palace-women-september-2024/).

The following weekend, **our first home game of the season will take place at Selhurst Park –** with Palace hosting **Chelsea**, winners of the last five WSL titles, **on** **Friday**, **27th September** at **19:30 BST!**

A fortnight later, the Eagles will welcome **Brighton & Hove Albion** to the **VBS Community Stadium** in Sutton, kicking off at **14:00** on **Sunday, 13th October**.

With excitement rising for our first-ever WSL season, attending one of our first home matches is a chance to become part of club history. We’ll be aiming to break our all-time attendance record (6,976) – so we need your help!

### Sales Phases

[Women’s Season Ticket holders](https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/announcement/crystal-palace-women-2024-2025-season-tickets-on-sale/) enjoyed a priority booking window for all Women's matches at Selhurst Park this season, allowing them first pick of the seats.

### Seating Arrangements

All supporters at Selhurst Park matches will be seated.

At matches **in Sutton** this season, however, supporters have the option of purchasing either a **Seating Ticket** – allowing them to reserve a specific seat within the VBS Community Stadium’s stands – or a **Standing Ticket**.

Standing Tickets are not restricted to specific areas. Supporters will be able to move around all terracing stands at the VBS Community Stadium, depending on availability.

**Away supporters** should be aware that there is a dedicated away section at each match in the WSL, with clubs responsible for selling seats to their own travelling supporters.

A limited number of **Premium packages** will also be available for the Palace v Chelsea match at Selhurst Park; please see below for further details.

We recommend purchasing all tickets online, in advance of each match, to ensure you don’t miss out.

You will first need to choose which stands you would like to sit in at both Selhurst Park (the Main Stand, or the Lower Holmesdale), **and** at the VBS Community Stadium (the Main Stand, which runs along the width of the pitch; or the Collingwood Stand, situated behind one of the goals).

You will then choose your Selhurst Park seat(s) for the Chelsea game, and will later be allocated a seat in the appropriate stand in Sutton for the Brighton game, by our Box Office.

### Ticket information

**All tickets will be digital** and will be emailed to the account holder one week before each game.

**Tickets for the Chelsea game** at Selhurst Park will be sent on Friday, 20th September. These should be downloaded into your ticket wallet via the Official Crystal Palace app or the email you receive.

**Tickets for the Brighton game** will be sent on Monday, 7th October, as PDF files, which can either be scanned on your phone at the gates, or printed off at home.
