### Turnstile Entry

The away fans section at Villa Park is located in the north east corner of the Doug Ellis Stand. The allocation is split in to two areas:

Tickets stating Doug Ellis Upper P – use turnstiles P87, P88, P88A and P89 for the upper tier. From ground level there are several flights of stairs to reach the upper concourse area (64 steps in total).

Doug Ellis Lower Q – use turnstiles Q91 to Q96B for the lower tier.

Should you arrive after kick-off, then turnstiles Q96 and / or P89 will remain open until the second-half has started.

### Travelling by coach

There are still spaces available on our away supporters coaches to Villa Park. ### Travelling by train

Witton station is the nearest station to Villa Park, and is also the nearest train station to the visiting supporters' seating at Villa Park. As well as regular services from Birmingham New Street, Witton station offers park & ride possibilities north of Villa Park on the Walsall line.

### Traffic Exclusion Zone

Please note that in the interest of pedestrian safety, a traffic exclusion zone (TEZ) is imposed around Villa Park on match days to exclude vehicles on the following roads: Witton Lane from the junction with Aston Hall Road to the traffic island at Witton Road, and Trinity Road between Nelson Road and Witton Lane.

The zone is in operation two hours prior to kick-off to approximately 30-60 minutes after the final whistle.

The precise timing is dependent upon traffic and pedestrian movement on the affected roads. Residents’ parking zones are in operation on match days. Villa strongly advise all supporters to use official car parks and avoid parking in residential areas. You will avoid the parking fine of £60 which you will incur for parking in within the residents’ zones.

### Accessibility at Villa Park

Visiting clubs have 14 wheelchair spaces which are located within the away section in the lower Doug Ellis stand, Q Blocks.

The wheelchair user positions are pitch side and have little cover – ponchos subject to availability are available during inclement weather. Villa recommend checking the forecast before travelling. Companions can sit adjacent to the wheelchair user. Wheelchair users can access the stadium via Gate 28, which is located next to the away ticket office and turnstiles.

Aston Villa is licensed to sell alcohol in the Doug Ellis Lower – Block Q only (alcohol will not be available in Doug Ellis Upper – Block P). Please note that no transfers can be permitted.

Villa advise visiting supporters in Doug Ellis Upper Tier – Block P to purchase a match programme from the official programme kiosks located on Witton Lane prior to entering the stadium. Due to limited facilities within the Upper Tier concourse area it is not always feasible for the club to sell programmes.

All families, home and away, are welcome at Villa Park's Family Fun Zone. The Fun Zone is a facility for families to enjoy a range of free activities for up to two hours before kick-off; this is located in the club's Academy building and includes activities such as face painting, large inflatables, games and activities. Production of a match ticket is required for entry.

The contents of bags will examined by a steward as you enter Villa Park. Larger bags and/or luggage cannot be taken into the stadium. There is no storage facility available for bags, back packs or luggage deemed too large to enter the stadium. Where possible, please do not bring any kind of bag.

#### **Charlton Athletic 2-2 Crystal Palace (06/09/20)**

This four-goal thriller was the first instalment of this South London rivalry in the Women's Championship. Charlton took the lead early on before Bianca Baptiste grabbed a well-worked equaliser on ten minutes.

32 minutes on the clock and Palace took the lead, thanks to a Cherelle Khassal strike from outside the box.

Palace held out until the 87th minute until Shauna Vassell tapped home at the back post to equalise for the hosts and send both teams away with a point.

#### **Charlton Athletic 3-2 Crystal Palace (22/10/23)**

During last season's successful promotion campaign, Palace visited the Valley in another thrilling instalment of this fixture.

Goals from Angela Addison and Kayleigh Green meant that the Eagles had to twice come from behind in the first-half, with Elise Hughes heading home a rebound and Araya Dennis scoring a stunning long-range equaliser just before the break.

It wasn't to be for Palace however, as Charlton grabbed the winner in the 76th minute through Melissa Johnson’s chipped effort.

An entertaining game and a tough result was Palace's first loss of the season, but despite the derby day disappointment, Laura Kaminski's Eagles would later go on to secure a historic promotion to the Barclays Women's Super league.

#### **Crystal Palace 3-2 Charlton Athletic (14/11/21)**

There were five goals at Hayes Lane in a dramatic edition of this South London derby. 

Featuring an early appearance of current Palace Women captain Aimee Everett, the Eagles raced into a two goal lead thanks to goals from Mia Farrow and Kirsty Barton.

Hollie Olding, who would go on to join Palace for the 2022/23 season, managed to get a goal back for Charlton on the 68th minute. Farrow managed to get her second and Palace's third just five minutes later, after she rounded the Charlton keeper and finished expertly into the corner.

Jess King's late goal for the visitors ensured a nervy finish, but Palace held on to claim the bragging rights.

Like so many professional football teams, Aston Villa were formed by a cricket side looking for a sport to play during the tempestuous winter months. Their first match came against a local rugby side, with the first-half played under rugby rules and the second under Association Football rules – somehow, Villa kept a clean sheet.

In 1876, Scotsman George Ramsay happened to spot the players training in Aston Park, and, having been asked to make up the numbers, impressed with his close control and skill on the ball. Soon he was made club captain and drew spectators to watch matches.

Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference, the Palace manager was pleased to welcome back several key players before the weekend.

"**Will Hughes** will be back after his suspension," Glasner confirmed. "**Chris Richards** was also already in the squad, so he's available.

"**Jefferson Lerma** is back and available, and **Cheick Doucouré** is ready to start after two weeks of very good training."

On his midfield options, Glasner later added: "That's very good for us of course, and we hope that **Adam \[Wharton\]** comes back, maybe not for the Newcastle game, but in the following one or two weeks, because we need them.

"We need the quality of those players, the passing, but also it's the same with Cheick. I think if he starts, it would be the second start within one year, so I don't expect miracles from him, but it's good to see him back on the pitch, getting more confidence with his body. 

"He's a fantastic football player, we could see from the first day, but when you are, I think he \[was\] injured at the beginning of November last year, he trained for six to eight weeks in 12 months, so that's getting back into his best shape, this is what we will support him \[with\], but it's good to have him back.

"He's talking a lot, he's a senior player. The young generations are often very introverted, and he's one on the pitch, talking to the others, organising things, pushing the players, and this helps us of course."

Despite being boosted by the return of Doucouré and others, the manager has taken the decision not to risk **Ebere Eze** for the trip to Villa Park.

"Ebs would like to be involved in tomorrow's game, but I took the decision not to take him with us to Villa," Glasner confirmed.

"It's a little bit too risky. He trained during the week, but it's too near when it happened. When we see our schedule, we have to protect our players.

"When we see our schedule after the Villa game, with eight games in December, we can't take any risks, so that's why Ebs is not involved in tomorrow's game.

"We had a long chat today, because he's very ambitious. He's a great guy, he worked really hard and he wanted to be with us. He feels he's ready, and it's him who wants to play.

"Of course, I want him to play. But as I mentioned, we have to protect him.

"Therefore we said: 'OK, yes we lose \[him\] for one game, but we win eight or nine days. And maybe then we win eight games, and we all hope to win at the Emirates in the Carabao \[Cup\].

"Then we have 15 games in December and January, and we need him for 15 games, not just for one."

The manager tried to allow his players a chance to rest over the break before the hectic Christmas period, although several players were busy representing their countries.

"We decided, because of our schedule, that the whole first week was off," Glasner explained. "It was just the injured players or the rehab players coming back from injury, like Cheick.

"He trained here with our Under-21s. He had a friendly game with them, but all the others who had many games and will face many games, they had the first week off.

"Also, for the staff, it's important. We decided several weeks ago to take one week off. I'm used to have it around Christmas, but here in England it's different, so I think it was important for everybody to recover.

"But the second week was really good. Yes, we were still a small group because of some injuries, and the international players - Daniel Munoz had just two days training with us after playing two games with Colombia - but it was good.

"It was a good week, good intensity. So we're going to Villa today, and we know we are missing some, especially attacking players, without Ebs, without **Eddie** \[**Nketiah**\], without \[**Matheus**\] **Franca**, without **Daichi** **Kamada**.

"We know this, but we think we have good chances to take at least a point. Of course we go there and, like always, the mindset is to get the win."

Oliver Glasner says that Cheick Doucouré is one of a number of players ready to return to the starting lineup against Aston Villa after an extended period out, but that Ebere Eze is still working towards full fitness.

### “I have a lot of appreciation for Unai Emery”

*Glasner could become the first manager to win three games in a row against Unai Emery since Zinedine Zidane in 2018.*

To be compared with Zinedine Zidane… I thought you compared me when I was a player and he was a player, but there's nothing in common with us!

I have a lot of appreciation for Unai Emery. In every club he managed, you can see how he wants to play, you can see what he wants to do, and everywhere he was successful.

It's the same with Aston Villa. When you analyse the game, the style of playing is always the same, because it's how the manager wants to play, so this is very positive for Unai Emery. On the other side, it makes it sometimes a little bit easier in preparing the game and creating a plan, but to be honest, when we create a plan we always \[aim to\] win the game.

But on the other side, we were not that successful this season, in winning any game, so it's the same. The one thing is the plan we have, analysing is the second thing, and the most important and decisive part is the transformation on the pitch. 

I think Aston Villa want to compete for the Champions League places in the league, and I don't know which position they are at the moment, but for them it's clear they're playing for three points at home against Crystal Palace, and we're playing for three points for Crystal Palace.

### “Pep is maybe the best”

*Pep Guardiola has signed a new contract with Manchester City.*

You could see when Jurgen Klopp left \[Liverpool\] and a new manager came in, it was not a big difference. They're again playing for winning the Premier League, before and also now. 

Pep is maybe the best, maybe the most successful manager in the Premier League in the last decade, or almost decade. But on the other side, we don't have to worry about Pep that he doesn't find a job. If he wants, he can do everything in the world that he wants to do, and he decided to stay in the rainy Manchester, so it's a good decision for him!

### “It’s always challenging to manage the games”

Of course, we want all our players to be available and be fit. But we didn't expect it in that way that we started without injuries, and all of a sudden we had \[lots\] in a staccato.

Yes, now we want them back, but on the other side, we have now the Villa game, then we have one full week, but then we have Newcastle, Ipswich and \[Manchester\] City, and we also know when players are coming back.

You asked me about Eberechi \[Eze\] before – we know he can't play all three games for 90 minutes. And this will be the same with Jeff Lerma, it will be the same with Cheick Doucouré, it will be the same with Chris Richards, it will be the same with Eddie Nketiah, whom we hope he will be available in this \[upcoming\] week.

It's positive that they are back, they are available, but on the other side, it's always challenging to manage the games, because when you know he's a starter, but he can play a maximum of 60 minutes, or if he's on the bench, but he shouldn't be longer than 30, because you want to make subs to have an influence in the game, and not just to be aware of no more injuries.

This is the tricky situation, but this is how it is, and we try to deal the best with it.

### “You have no influence on their mindset”

*Aston Villa go into Saturday’s game off the back of four defeats in a row in all competitions.*

We could say the opposite: ‘they have won the four in a row, they are in the flow, they have so much confidence.’ Is it any easier to go to Villa Park and win there? I don't think so.

But we don't think about it, you have no influence on their mindset, but it's clear, again, whatever the games before, how the results were, when Aston Villa plays at home against Crystal Palace, the plan is three points, that's clear. This is the only thing that we know, they will play for winning the game, they will play in their style, because they always play in their style.

This is what I really admire with Unai Emery: his fantastic job he's doing with his staff. Set-plays, I admire what they are doing, so creative, it's great. But we had a good game to analyse: our cup game there, we know that maybe they had a lot of rotation, but the style of playing was the same, and I think also they have some doubts, some injured players.

This is now the end of November, it's the same for any club, and that's why I don't think that it changes the way Villa enters the game, and it doesn't change the way we enter the game.

We looked a lot at \[our Carabao Cup win at Villa Park three weeks ago\], again because what they are doing is always the same, the style, with their going from a back four and their build-up to a back three, pushing the left full-back high.

It was Ian \[Maatsen\] against us, we expect \[Lucas\] Digne tomorrow; playing with the left winger more in the pocket, it was \[Jaden\] Philogene again in the Carabao, we expect \[John\] McGinn tomorrow; and always trying to find the players in the pocket, having a lot of runs in behind, with Ollie Watkins we expect tomorrow, it was John Duran, also not a very bad player. That's how they always play.

We prepared our players as good as possible, and then if we play in a compact shape, they always attack in a 4-4-2, it's also the same, when you play with a high five, one of the wingers has to drop, so this is how they played against \[Club\] Brugge, this is how they played against Tottenham, this is how they played against us. 

The numbers of the players are different, but the patterns are the same, so again, in the preparation, you get a lot of things you already know, but we need the quality of our players, we need the belief of our players, we need the confidence of our players, and I'm sure we will get our situations there, and then it's again about efficiency. 

We didn't have the best game against Fulham, but we had enough opportunities to get at least a draw, but we didn't take them in this game, so that's why we lost with mistakes, and this is how, at the end, football is working.

### “This is creativity”

 That's why we gave \[the players a week\] off \[during the November international break\] – for all of us, also for the staff. I said to the doctor, ‘come on, you need it’, because he's here, it looks like 24 hours, seven days a week, so when we are off, he's with the injured players, and everybody needs this.

You need time to think about it, you need influence. If you always have just this corridor you are looking at, how can you have creativity? Because this is your truth, this corridor is your truth, but you don't see what's right or next from you, you don't see what's behind you, sometimes you have to turn around, look at it, think about it, or don't think about it.

You can't tell a musician, tomorrow from 7 to 9 you write a song, but maybe he wakes up at 3 in the morning, and he writes it from 3 to 5. This is the same with an author.

The players, when you see them playing, sometimes they are like artists. It's unbelievable what they are doing, the finishing and some movements, and this is not where you say: ‘you make two twists and then somersault backwards, and you score a goal.’

When I see the goal against Tottenham, how Ebbs prepared with his heel behind his back, after the cross, this is creativity. You can't tell him to do this. He decides in the moment, and it was a great decision, and the execution was unbelievable – and then JP gets the ball in an area where I think nine of 10 times he scores a goal. This is what I mean.

When it's always structure, you lose your creativity, and I think this is something in development, and I think it's important in school, with the children, it's important in sports with children, that when you always tell them what they have to do, they lose their creativity.

Yes, it is \[necessary\] to find the right balance, because you need some borders, but within these borders, you should move freely, and this is what I meant.

### “We are competitive in any single game”

 Yesterday we were sitting several hours, and getting all the data from our first 11 games.

If we had performed in the same way we did the last seven games \[of last season\], we would win the Premier League, and so I think nobody expected that we will win the Premier League this season.

But the interesting thing is, that many of our possession data are very similar to our, not just the last six or seven games, but the last 13 games when we arrived. 

What is clear when you see is we are dramatically underperforming in xG in scoring goals. We have better pressing numbers. In conceding goals, \[in\] not just the last seven games, or the last 13, we concede less than we conceded on average over the whole of last season. But we have fewer points, and that's the fact, and that means we can't ignore this.

In the end, we are really thinking a lot, and analysing, and trying to turn the right wheels, but it's not that we want and will change everything. Again we are competitive in any single game, and sometimes football is like this.

\[Against Fulham\] in the 45th minute, Joachim Andersen makes a clearance off the line, and one minute later, we make a terrible mistake, and we are 1-0 down at half-time, and also we know, if you have a lead in the Premier League, I think more than 60% of \[the time\], you don't lose the game, so many situations we don't take for us at the moment, when we have them.  I could explain many more: at Wolves, after the 1-0, the crowd was booing, with two unbelievable chances for deciding the game with the second goal, we didn't, and we conceded a goal, and then the game changes.

And so we have to get more consistent in reducing our mistakes, in the defence. We have to get more efficient in our attacking, and then we will get more confidence back, and then I think the game will be more fluid, if this is the right word.

We are always changing. Every game, we are changing our starting line-up, we have to change the starting line-up, and then new players here, new players there, and that’s a little bit about the issues we have at the moment.

Stay on top of all the action with our extensive in-app **Match Centre:** now available for **all four professional Crystal Palace teams** (Men, Women, U21s and U18s!).

Follow all the build-up to kick-off with pre-match news and video all in one place, including reaction, press conferences and all the important team news.

Throughout the match, live Opta stats will keep you up to date with all the action, as well as live text commentary to ensure you don’t miss a minute. Goal updates will keep you informed of all the goals for both sides.

**To turn on live match updates for each team, simply:**

1. Login to the Palace App and tap your initials in the top-right to open your 'Profile' screen
2. Tap 'App Settings'
3. Tap 'Notification Preferences'
4. Use this screen to toggle which teams you would like to see in-game notifications for – and for which events too!

After the game, the Match Centre is the place to be for all the reaction, as the Palace TV cameras catch up with the manager and players for their thoughts on the game.

Stay tuned for the Man of the Match votes, where you can pick out your standout performers from the 90-minutes, as well as match highlights.

#### **Revamped Palace TV**

The revamped Palace TV section means you can catch up on all the highlights and key clips as soon as they are available, as well as all the exclusive interviews and features from Copers Cope Road.

Each video is now hosted in an improved video player with better rewind and fast-forward functionality, **and can be connected to Chromecast devices by tapping the 'cast' icon in the top-right corner.**

Also through the app, Palace TV+ subscribers can listen to live radio commentaries of all first-team fixtures throughout the season, as watch live broadcasts of selected Academy fixtures – plus, full 90-minute match replays of all Premier League fixtures on demand - **all** **now** **able to be cast to your Chromecast devices.**

With the Premier League having introduced digital ticketing, make keeping track of your match tickets easier with the Palace app. The app offers faster and simpler access to tickets, ensuring that you can manage everything on your phone.

The Ticket Wallet keeps all of your tickets in one place, ensuring easier access to Selhurst Park before kick-off. You can also add tickets to your Apple Wallet or your Google Pay straight from the app.
