The Belgian forward had to watch much of the game from the bench, but voiced his disappointment with the loss, saying, "I think we controlled the first-half well, especially when we scored first at a good time. In the second half, I would say we started well but I thought we were maybe too confident and we gave them some space. You could see they were waiting for our mistake, it [the first goal] was our mistake. It was more our mistake than their creativity."
Having missed every game since the beginning of September, Benteke's return was a relief to both fans and the 28-year-old alike.
Looking back on the match, he expressed his satisfaction at being able to play again and said, "It was really nice to be back there with the lads, especially when we're playing at home. It's just a shame that we didn't finish the game with a win. I think there's a long way to go, I've worked so hard to get back and I'm hopeful that I'll stay fit and score some goals.
"I came back at the right time because we were really solid those last few weeks and hopefully now I'm going to be there to help the lads."
