Speaking in his post-match press conference, Hodgson said: “We didn’t look great in the second half but in the first half wasn’t such a poor performance; I thought we were more than worth our 0-0 at half-time. There were moments in and around their penalty area where I thought we might do some damage by getting the ball in Wilf’s feet and Christian’s feet.
“But second half, especially after the goal, we seemed to lose that composure and to some extent the passing quality we had in the first half and as a result it became fairly easy for Sheffield United to protect their victory and win the match.
On the Blades’ performance, their first in the Premier League at home for 13 years, Hodgson said: “They did what they needed to do. They gave the sort of performance that I’m pretty certain Chris Wilder wanted to see, so he’ll be very happy with his team’s performance and got them three very important points.
“Whereas, I can’t be happy with the Crystal Palace performance because we didn’t do anywhere near enough to win the game, especially in the second half to get ourselves back in it and cause them the sort of problems I thought we’d need to cause them to get something from the game.”
