Crystal Palace's new manager Oliver Glasner is an experienced and ambitious tactician with a wealth of successes to his name; here are just a handful of his biggest career moments, captured through the lens...
Glasner joined Austrian second division side SV Ried in 1993, and set about making himself a legend of the club. The centre-back won promotion two years later.
He went on to twice lift the Austrian Cup and make over 571 appearances during almost two decades' playing service, before retiring from playing in 2011.
Having gone to university to complete a Diplomkaufmann – an MBA or Masters of Business Administration – Glasner joined Red Bull Salzburg as a management assistant, before taking over as head coach at SV Ried for the 2014/15 season. He then joined LASK as both Director of Sport and Head Coach ahead of 2015/16.
The appointment was an instant success, Glasner first winning promotion and then finishing fourth in the league to take them to their first European campaign since 2000.
After being knocked out of the Europa League by Manchester United, a second-place finish in 2019 earned them the right to compete in the Champions League qualifiers.
Joining Wolfsburg ahead of 2019/20, Glasner repeated his European success, finishing seventh in the Bundesliga and qualifying for the Europa League in his first season in charge.
He then guided his team to a fourth-place finish and made it to the Champions League, earning the third-highest Bundesliga points total in the club’s history along the way.
In 2021, Glasner left Wolfsburg for Eintracht Frankfurt, who had qualified for the Europa League – and great glory, once again, followed the Austrian.
The campaign saw Glasner’s team go unbeaten in Europe, eliminating Barcelona at the Camp Nou (emerging 3-2 victors at the famous Spanish ground, to win 4-3 on aggregate) in the Europa League quarter-finals.
In the semi-finals, Frankfurt defeated West Ham United both home and away – 2-1 at London Stadium, and 1-0 at Deutsche Bank Park – to reach the final in Seville.
Frankfurt beat Rangers on penalties to lift the trophy for only the second time in their history, and the first time since 1980.
It meant Champions League qualification and a Super Cup tie against Real Madrid the following season.
The following year, Frankfurt went on to reach a German Cup final and the Champions League last 16, and once again qualified for Europe for the subsequent campaign.
