Palace ran-out as 2-0 victors over Tottenham Hotspur this evening, taking them through to the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup.
And, despite the extra reason to celebrate, the Eagles' Argentine shot-stopper was entirely unaware that he had made history in south London.
"I didn't know, I thought I needed one more actually!" he exclaimed. "It was great, the whole team performance was excellent. We stuck to our plan, everything worked for us, we scored two good goals and then obviously we need to defend for the second half. They're a very good team in possession so we had to be careful about that, we had to make sure we kept doing what we did in the first half."
Opening the scoring having made his first first-team start in over two years was Connor Wickham, who broke the deadlock within 10 minutes. From the other end of the pitch, Wickham's relief and joy to have scored was felt by a long-serving teammate.
"[I was] so pleased for Connor when he scored," Speroni said. "I was so, so happy. You can tell how pleased he was and, listen, he worked so, so hard to get back. He's tough, very tough, so I'm very, very pleased for him."
It may have been Wickham and Speroni standing out under the Selhurst Lights tonight, but the entire Palace squad performed well with a handful of players starting having not played over recent weeks.
At the heart of this was Palace's veteran 'keeper, who commented on his teammates, saying, "The Premier League and also this competition, you need a squad, you can't just rely on 11 players. You need a strong squad where people can come in and do a job and that's what we have."
