Looking ahead to today's game, the manager, who enjoyed four stints with Palace between 1984-2000, said: "All the games in the Premier League you have to earn a victory and Palace have had some great results but the best results obviously have been away from home. I think a lot of Palace fans at the moment are looking for a really convincing home victory.
"Brighton on the other hand have been drawn into a situation which is uncomfortable. They know they’re looking over their shoulder so there’s an awful lot of motivation, a lot to play for in today’s game. I would think Palace are just that little bit stronger and have that home advantage, I would think they will just edge it in what will be a very good game."
Coppell spent less time with Brighton, taking charge of them between 2002-03 and, despite having led a whole host of other clubs including Reading and Bristol City, firmly nailed his red and blue colours to the mast.
"[I have] great memories," he said. "I spent a quarter of my life managing Crystal Palace so I have a huge affection. People say to me now, ‘who do you support?’. As a boy I was a Liverpool fan, I played for many years obviously for Manchester United but Crystal Palace is the first result I look for.
"I live in the area, have loads of mates who stand and watch games every week so it’s a significant part of what I’m about."
