Speaking to Palace TV post-the Carabao Cup exit to Colchester United, dissecting the game Woods said: "Very disappointed; the changing room was very quiet at the end. The gaffer said it’s not good enough, and it shouldn’t have even gone to penalties; we should’ve got the job done in 90 minutes.
"In the first half we didn’t move the ball quick enough; the second half was better but just didn’t create or take a chance when it came."
Despite the negative result, no Palace fan would begrude Woods a moment of delight in starting his first game for the men's team, and despite the defender's disappointment at the end, he was delighted to make that appearance: "It was a great feeling walking out the tunnel and ‘Glad All Over’ singing; it was a goosebumps feeling to begin with."
Woods was used at right-back tonight, a position he's never played outside of training, and on that tactical change, Woods revealed the impact Andros Townsend had on him during the 90 minutes: "It was good; I play right back in training sometimes but this was my first time actually in a game. I think I did an okay job.
"You go forward a bit more; you’ve got to support Andros who was great in front of me, talking to me, supporting me. There’s more attacking play you’ve got to contribute with rather than just defending."
