“You can’t come to Anfield and score three goals but still lose. We need to tighten up because some of the goals we conceded today are just not good enough so it’s not a case of we performed well but were unlucky, we just need to be better, a lot better.”
Zaha recorded an assist for the opening goal of the afternoon against Liverpool as the visitors broke the deadlock through Andros Townsend, firing home past Alisson from close range after the Eagles winger put the cross into the box. After the match, whilst reflecting on his own performance, he insisted that the result takes away any personal pleasure.
“Yes I am happy with the assist but it makes no difference if you lose the game so even though I am happy to have provided the cross and obviously pleased Andros managed to score but at the end of the day we lost and need to put it behind us now.
“We have to take the positives, we played really well today and didn’t panic thinking we were playing against a top team but tried to express ourselves. We played well against a side that are not top of the league for no reason and we showed how dangerous we are when we are performing well so need to take that into the next game.”
The side now have a break from league action with a home cup tie next Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur so it’s now a chance to assess league form and look forward to the all Premier League fourth round tie.
“We have been in this predicament before but you have to produce the right mentality which we always do, so we will be fine.
“Any game I play in is one that we all want to win and the game against Tottenham will be no different so after this performance, even though we are not happy we lost, we will take the positives and hopefully get a win next weekend.”
